람메르무어의 루치아 - 서덜랜드

며칠전 서덜랜드의 메트 데뷔 시즌의 루치아 공연 오디오를 들었다.

The Met debut of soprano Joan Sutherland was one of the great evenings in the history of the company, and this broadcast, recorded only a few days after that memorable first night, captures the near hysteria that Sutherland’s spectacular performance unleashed. Lucia’s descent into insanity is superbly conveyed in her sensational account of the famous mad scene. Richard Tucker is an ardent Edgardo and Frank Guarrera plays Enrico, Lucia’s scheming brother.

 

음질이 상당히 열악해서 좀 듣기 힘든 점도 있는데, 서덜랜드의 노래에만 집중해서 들어보면 음질이고 뭐고 상관없이 그냥 빠져든다.

관중들의 대단한 반응도 느껴진다. 유명한 6중창은 어쩐지 좀 밍밍하다. 음질때문인가?

 

같은 시기의 음반이 있어 찾아봤다. 61년 7,8월에 로마에서 녹음된 것.

 

59년 코벤트가든 데뷔 실황.

 

위 두개는 들어보지 못했지만 참 궁금하다.

 

그 유명한 파바로티와의 루치아 72년 녹음 음반.

 

이 뒷면 사진보고 첨에 깜짝 놀랐다. 59년,61년 이라는 것만 보고 보너스 CD얘긴 못본거다.

분명 72년 녹음으로 알고 있는데 이게 웬일인가 했네... -,.-

 

암튼.... 올해 드세이와 칼레야의 메트 공연을 즐겁게 본 후로 새삼스레 루치아가 다시 들린다.

서덜랜드의 경우, 72년 녹음보단 메트 데뷔 전후의 젊은 목소리가 더 좋다.

 

딴얘기지만,

청교도 녹음도 사람들은 아래그림의 75년 음반을 최고로 치지만

 

난 63년 녹음된 이 전집속의 것이 더 짜릿하고 좋다.
